Strikes continue in Lebanon as ceasefire holds under strain

Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon have killed at least 14 people, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, as tensions persist despite an ongoing ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. The ministry said the victims included two children and two women, with 37 others injured in strikes carried out on Sunday.

The ceasefire, which came into effect on April 16 and was later extended by three weeks, has remained fragile, with repeated violations reported over the weekend. The Israeli military said it had issued evacuation warnings in parts of southern Lebanon before carrying out aerial strikes on sites it claimed were being used “to advance attacks against IDF soldiers”. In a separate incident, the Israeli military confirmed that a 19-year-old soldier was killed and six others were injured in a Hezbollah drone attack inside Lebanon.

Diplomatic efforts to stabilise the situation have shown limited progress. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Russia for talks and is expected to meet President Vladimir Putin. Araghchi said his visit would offer “a good opportunity” to review developments in the war and coordinate positions with Moscow.
