Campaigning for 2nd and final phase of assembly elections in West Bengal to end today

The campaigning for the second and final phase of the assembly elections in West Bengal will end this evening. 142 constituencies will go to the polls in this phase on the 29th April. The assembly segments that will vote in the second phase cover eight electoral districts, including Kolkata North, Kolkata South, Howrah, Nadia, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Hooghly and Purba Bardhaman.

Leaders from all major parties are holding rallies across the state. Senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public meeting at Jilepi Math in Jagatdal today. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will hold two road shows. The first will be from Behala Thana to Manton. The second will take place at Chandannagar Bagbazar in Hooghly. Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee has multiple programs scheduled for the day. She will walk in a public outreach march from Sukanta Setu in Jadavpur in support of the party’s candidates for the Jadavpur and Tollygunge constituencies.

Later, she has a public outreach program in her own constituency, Bhabanipur. Trinamool’s All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee is scheduled to campaign in Ranaghat, Hooghly, Arambagh, and Maheshtala in support of party candidates. The first phase of polling in West Bengal registered a record voter turnout of 93.19 per cent on April 23. The counting for all four states – Keralam, Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu – and one Union Territory, Puducherry, will be held on May 4.
