Severe thunderstorms in Texas leave trail of destruction

In the United States, severe thunderstorms tore through parts of Texas last night, leaving a trail of destruction. Powerful winds ripped roofs off homes, flattened buildings and hurled debris into the air. In Mineral Wells, a small city about 72 kilometres west of Fort Worth, multiple homes and businesses were damaged. Several families were displaced. At least two people were taken to the hospital.

Others with minor injuries were treated at the scene. There were no immediate reports of fatalities or missing persons. The wild weather came just days after a tornado-producing thunderstorm killed at least two people in northern Texas and displaced at least 20 families. The latest storms, including at least one unconfirmed tornado, were triggered by large storm cells drifting southeast from north-central Texas.
