Severe heatwave grips Rajasthan; Jaisalmer hits 46.4°C, life disrupted

The impact of a severe heatwave in Rajasthan has pushed day and night temperatures to record-breaking levels across several districts, significantly disrupting normal life. Over the past 24 hours, temperatures in many cities remained 3 to 9 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average. However, between yesterday afternoon and this morning, several districts experienced strong winds accompanied by light rainfall, while isolated hailstorms were also recorded in some areas.

Jaisalmer recorded a maximum temperature of 46.4°C yesterday, marking its hottest April day in a decade. Additionally, temperatures crossed 45°C in Barmer, Phalodi, Churu, Kota, Chittorgarh and Bikaner. In several cities, even the minimum temperature was recorded above 30°C.

The intense heat has led to a significant surge in electricity consumption. According to the Met Centre in Jaipur, the heatwave is expected to persist for the next 24 hours. However, dust storms and light showers remain possible in isolated pockets during this period.
