Samriddh Gram Initiative is being nominated for the World Summit on the Information Society Prizes 2026 under the Enabling Environment category. Launched by the Department of Telecommunications, the initiative is built under the BharatNet project.
The Ministry of Communications informed that it delivers integrated phygital services combining physical infrastructure with digital platforms through Samriddhi Kendras, set up as one-stop service hubs in villages.
The Ministry informed that these centres provide access to key services such as healthcare, education, agriculture support, governance, financial inclusion, and e-commerce. With high-speed broadband, FTTH connectivity, and public Wi-Fi, they enable facilities like telemedicine, digital classrooms, and online government services. The Ministry also added that the initiative has already shown early impact by improving service access, reducing travel time, and enhancing digital literacy and livelihood opportunities in rural areas.
Recently, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia inaugurated the first Samriddhi Kendra in Umri village of Madhya Pradesh, marking a significant step in expanding digital infrastructure at the grassroots level. The Ministry highlighted that the Public voting for the WSIS Prizes is currently open and will continue till 3rd of next month. The winners will be announced during the WSIS Forum 2026 to be held in Geneva in July.
