The Rajya Sabha today resumed discussion on the working of the Ministry of Rural Development. Dr Sangeeta Balwant of the BJP said the real power of India lies in its villages. She said the Narendra Modi Government has empowered the villages and the people of rural areas.
Shaktisinh Gohil of Congress said that the soul of India is in the villages. He said MGNREGA provided employment to the people in rural areas and alleged that the current government has reduced the funds for MGNREGA, putting the burden on State governments.
Sant Balbir Singh of AAP raised the issue of pending funds related to Rural Development yet to be released to Punjab. He said funds related to Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana are also lying with the Centre.
Rajathi of DMK, Imran Pratapgarhi of Congress, and Seema Dwivedi of BJP also participated in the discussion along with others. The discussion remained inconclusive. After this, the House also took up Special Mentions where Members raised issues of urgent importance. After completing today’s business, the Upper House was adjourned till 11 AM tomorrow.
