Campaigning Intensifies for Second Phase of West Bengal Assembly Election 2026

Campaigning for the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026 has intensified across the state, with star campaigners of various political parties trying to woo voters through rallies, roadshows and public meetings.

Senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a number of rallies today in support of party candidates.

Senior BJP leader and Home Minister Amit Shah, speaking at Jamalpur in Purba Bardhaman yesterday, said that if voted to power, the BJP would implement the Uniform Civil Code in the state and introduce the Seventh Pay Commission and women would be allowed free travel on state-run buses. He later addressed a rally at Shyampur in Howrah and took part in roadshows at Ramrajatala and Tollygunge.

Senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh also addressed rallies at Goghat and Arambagh in Hooghly where he said women would receive financial assistance of three thousand rupees per month if the BJP forms the government. He also promised to fill vacant government posts.

BJP leader J P Nadda campaigned at Raina, while party leader Yogi Adityanath addressed a rally at Bagda in North 24 Parganas. Himanta Biswa Sarma joined a roadshow at Arambagh. BJP President Nitin Nabin also participated in a road show at Baranagar.

On the other hand, Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee addressed a meeting at Uttarpara, where she said she had fought in the Supreme Court and restored 32 lakh deleted names to the voters’ list. She later took part in a roadshow at Birati and a padyatra in Bhabanipur. TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee, speaking at Basirhat, alleged that the Centre had withheld funds meant for the state’s development.

Meanwhile, leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi addressed meetings at Serampore, Metiabruz and Shahid Minar where he criticised both Narendra Modi and Mamata Banerjee.
