A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court today extended the remand of separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah by 10 more days in connection with a three-decade-old terror case. Shah was brought to the court on completion of his earlier 10-day remand. During the hearing, the NIA sought further custody for additional questioning. After considering the submissions, the court granted the agency’s request. Officials said Shah has also filed a bail application, which is likely to be taken up during the next hearing.
Separatist leader Shah was arrested by the Srinagar branch of the NIA on 17th April in Delhi in connection with a 1996 case related to an attack on policemen during a militant’s funeral. Following his arrest, the Patiala House Court granted transit remand, after which he was brought to Jammu and produced before the NIA court. Shabir Ahmad Shah was recently released on bail after spending nearly seven years in jail custody in separate cases.
