The Ministry of Rural Development today held a meeting with a delegation from the Asian Development Bank to discuss collaboration in the areas of land governance, digital land records modernisation, and watershed development.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary of the Department of Land Resources Narendra Bhooshan stated that the Department has been entrusted with the crucial responsibility of land records management and land administration in the country. He highlighted the key initiatives being undertaken by the Department in line with the Government’s vision of building a Viksit Bharat by 2047. He said efficient land administration and optimal use of land resources are crucial for accelerating economic development and ensuring inclusive growth.
The Secretary said significant progress has been achieved under the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme, (DILRMP). He informed that digitisation of Records of Rights has reached near saturation in several States and Union Territories, while linkage of textual land records with cadastral maps has achieved major milestones across the country.
He also informed the delegation that the Department is preparing to roll out DILRMP 3.0 to further strengthen land governance through technological interventions, dynamic updation of land records and integration of land-related databases. Mr Bhooshan said Unique Land Parcel Identification Numbers, also known as Bhu-Aadhaar, have already been generated for nearly 66 per cent of agricultural land parcels in the country.
