The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has announced the adoption of virtual hearings and hybrid working arrangements as part of fuel conservation measures following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for “economic self-defence” amid concerns over rising crude oil prices and energy security.
According to a circular issued by the Registrar General, the measures have come into effect from today and will remain in force until further notice.
The High Court said virtual hearings and virtual appearances by advocates will be encouraged, subject to prescribed decorum and protocol for online proceedings.
The circular further stated that during the summer vacation beginning June 8, nominated vacation benches will hear matters through virtual mode. However, advocates unable to join through video conferencing may appear physically whenever the court functions in person.
The High Court has also suspended all physical administrative inspections and district visits until further notice. Administrative meetings will now be conducted online.
In addition, LTC facilities for judicial officers and staff, except those already approved, have been put on hold. The Judicial Academy will also conduct all training programmes, workshops, and orientation activities only through virtual mode.
