INS Sudarshini concludes three-day port call at Las Palmas in Canary Islands

The Indian Navy’s sail training ship INS Sudarshini concluded a three-day port call at Las Palmas in the Canary Islands yesterday, marking a key milestone in its Lokayan 26 transoceanic expedition. The Ministry of Defence said that during the visit, the Commanding Officer of INS Sudarshini called on Rear Admiral Santiago de Colsa Trueba, Chief of the Canary Islands Naval Command. The interaction underlined growing maritime cooperation and strong bilateral ties between India and Spain.

It added that the ship was opened to visitors during the port call, attracting members of the local community and the Indian diaspora. Visitors were given guided tours, highlighting India’s rich seafaring traditions and fostering people-to-people connections. INS Sudarshini will now sail to Mindelo in Cape Verde, which will be its final African stop before beginning the trans-Atlantic leg of the voyage. The ship has so far completed seven port calls, engaging with navies across West Asia, the Mediterranean, Europe and Africa. The expedition reflects the Indian Navy’s continued commitment to strengthening global maritime partnerships and promoting goodwill among nations.
