India stepping up push for critical minerals security, says Mines Secretary Piyush Goyal

Secretary, Ministry of Mines, Piyush Goyal, today said that India is stepping up efforts to secure critical minerals vital for clean energy, advanced technologies, and economic resilience.

Addressing the summit on “Developing the Critical Minerals Value Chain for a Sustainable Future” in New Delhi, he underscored the need to build end-to-end value chains and tap secondary resources such as mine waste and tailings.

He said the National Critical Minerals Mission aims to ensure long-term supply through reforms spanning exploration, auctions, processing, and recycling. He noted that hundreds of exploration projects have been undertaken and mineral block auctions have surged in recent years.

Emphasising the need for domestic processing capacity, he said that without value chains, even sourced minerals cannot be fully utilised. Mr Goyal added that India is on a transformative journey to create resilient and sustainable supply chains for the future.
