In Gujarat, counting of votes is underway for the local body elections. As per the initial rounds of counting, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a lead, winning over 3,750 seats so far out of more than 9,200 seats.
The BJP has won 410 seats in Municipal Corporation elections, followed by the Congress with 20 seats and others with 4 seats. In municipalities, the BJP has secured 1,105 seats, while the Congress has won 192 seats and others 1,158 seats.
In district panchayats, the BJP has won 439 seats, with the Congress securing 55 seats, while 20 seats have been won by others. In taluka panchayats, the BJP is ahead with 1,803 seats, followed by the Congress with 409 seats and others, including the Aam Aadmi Party, with 194 seats.
The elections covered 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats, and 260 taluka panchayats. The polls, contested by major parties including the BJP, Congress, and the Aam Aadmi Party, along with Independents, are being seen as an important indicator of political strength at the grassroots level.
