The Election Commission has reported seizures of over 510 crore rupees during the ongoing Assembly elections in West Bengal. The seizures include cash, liquor, drugs, precious metals and other inducements aimed at influencing voters.
According to the Commission, a series of high-level review meetings was conducted involving Chief Secretaries, Chief Electoral Officers, Directors General of Police and senior officials from poll-bound states and Union Territories, as well as their neighbouring regions. The ECI emphasised that all officials have been directed to guarantee elections that are free from violence, intimidation, and inducements. As part of these efforts, more than two thousand seven hundred 28 Flying Squad teams have been deployed across the states. To further bolster surveillance, over three thousand one hundred 42 Static Surveillance Teams have been set up. These teams are conducting surprise checks at strategic locations to monitor and intercept illegal activities.
