Dinesh Trivedi appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to Bangladesh

The Ministry of External Affairs today announced the appointment of Dinesh Trivedi as the next High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh. A veteran politician, Trivedi has served as Union Minister for Railways and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare in the government led by Manmohan Singh. He has also represented West Bengal in both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha.
 
He was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Barrackpore constituency from 2009 to 2019 and earlier served multiple terms in the Rajya Sabha.
 
Trivedi was honoured with the Outstanding Parliamentarian Award for 2016-17 and has also chaired several parliamentary forums, including the Indo-European Union Parliamentary Forum.
 
He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2021 after resigning from the All India Trinamool Congress.
