The Central Government has cleared the request of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to restart government wheat procurement in the national capital through the Food Corporation of India, marking resumption after a gap since 2021-22. Mrs Gupta thanked the government for the move, saying that it reflects a firm commitment to farmer’s welfare and income security and also an important step in prioritizing farmers’ interests. She added that with coordinated efforts between the Centre and Delhi Government, farmers in the national capital will be able to secure fair value for their produce and become more economically empowered. The Chief Minister noted that this initiative is expected to directly benefit around 21,000 farmers in Delhi.
