Centre allocates ₹7,210 crore for e-Courts project to make courts paperless: Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal

Union Minister of State for Law and Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal has said that the Central Government has allocated ₹7,210 crore for the e-Courts Project to make courts across India paperless.

Speaking at a lecture on “Technological Developments in the Judicial System,” organised by Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad (Devgiri Province) and Manikchand Pahade Law College, Union Minister said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) should be seen as an opportunity, not a threat. He stated that AI would not reduce jobs but would change the nature of work.

The Minister added that the government has already begun modernising courts through digital technology. Under the e-Courts Project, paper-based processes in courts are being gradually reduced. He said e-filing systems have already been introduced, and ongoing digitisation in district and high courts now allows citizens to access case details on their mobile phones.

Mr Meghwal further said that the judiciary is steadily moving towards a paperless system, which will make courts more efficient and accessible for citizens.
