Benchmark Equity Indices End Nearly 1% Higher; Sensex Surges 753 Points

Benchmark domestic equity indices ended nearly one per cent higher on Tuesday. The Sensex surged 753 points or 0.96 per cent, to close at 79,273, while the Nifty advanced by 212 points or 0.87 per cent to settle at 24,577. In the broader market on the National Stock Exchange, the Mid-cap 100 rose half a per cent, while the Small-cap 100 climbed almost 0.9 per cent.


Earlier, the markets opened with marginal gains, and as the session progressed, the indices steadily moved higher.


In the forex market today, the rupee depreciated by 37 paise to trade at 93 rupees and 49 paise against the US dollar.


In the global crude oil market, Brent Crude was trading 0.8 per cent down at 94 US dollars and 70 cents per barrel, while WTI Crude was also trading 1.2 per cent lower at 88 US dollars and 55 cents per barrel in intra-day trade.


In the Indian bullion market, 24-Carat gold was trading down at 1,53,920 rupees per 10 grams, while silver was also trading down at 2,52,420 rupees per kilogram, when reports last came in.
