The Indian Army reaffirmed its firm resolve to fight against terrorism on the eve of the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack. On 22nd of April last year, terrorists killed 26 innocent people, mostly tourists, at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. The dastardly act shook the nation and drew condemnation from governments and leaders across the world. In response to Pahalgam terror attack, Indian Armed forces launched Operation Sindoor on the intervening night of 6th and 7th of May last year.
The army in a social media post issued a stern warning to the perpetrators of terrorism asserting that when boundaries of humanity are crossed, the response is decisive. Justice is served. India stands united. The social media post also carried a digital poster referencing Operation Sindoor, carrying the message: “Some boundaries should never be crossed. India does not forget.”
Under Operation Sindoor, the well-coordinated strikes carried out by the Indian Armed Forces precisely hit nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), killing over 100 terrorists, their trainers, handlers, and associates. Most of the terrorists belonged to organisations like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The operation inflicted maximum damage on the terrorists and their hideouts, and minimum harm to the civilian population.
Top Indian military leaders in the past year have asserted multiple times that Operation Sindoor still continues, and the country’s military preparedness must remain at a very high level, round-the-clock and throughout the year.
As a tribute to those who lost their lives in the attack that took place in the meadows of Baisaran valley, a memorial has been erected in the hill resort of Pahalgam. Built of black marble, it bears the names of the 26 victims, 25 tourists and local person Adil Shah and has been constructed along the banks of the Lidder river.
