White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt Denies US Sought Extension of Iran Ceasefire

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has rejected reports that the US formally sought an extension of a ceasefire, while confirming that diplomatic talks with Iran remain ongoing. She said there was no formal request to extend the fragile ceasefire. However, she added that negotiations continue between the two sides and remain productive and ongoing.

The Press Secretary also said the US remains cautiously optimistic about a possible deal, adding that Iran has been made aware of Washington’s negotiating position and that discussions are continuing.

Leavitt said nothing is official regarding another possible meeting, stressing that any confirmation would come from the White House.  She said, but we feel good about the prospects of a deal. She also added that any US delegation would likely be returning to Islamabad, where Vice President JD Vance led last weekend’s talks with the Iranians.
