In West Bengal, the tender for the 2nd Sevoke Bridge (alternative to Coronation Bridge) over the Teesta River, connecting Sevoke to Ellenbari in Darjeeling district, has been canceled due to administrative reasons. The bids for the same was floated on January 2, 2026, with an estimated project cost of 840.29 crore rupees. The project includes constructing an additional major bridge and its approaches on NH-10 (formerly NH-31), managed by NHAI. The new bridge aims to ease traffic pressure on the 100-year-old Coronation Bridge, strengthening connectivity to Sikkim and Northeast India. The work was to commence in April 2026.
