West Bengal constituency profile: Baharampur Assembly seat in Murshidabad district

In the first phase of the Assembly Elections in West Bengal, a total of 152 assembly constituencies will go to the polls on the 23rd of this month. In our series on constituency profiles, today we take a look at the Baharampur Assembly Constituency in the Murshidabad district of the state. 

The Baharampur assembly constituency in the Murshidabad district is currently held by the Bharatiya Janata Party. The incumbent MLA is Subrata Maitra. A total of 13 candidates, including 4 independents, are contesting from the Baharampur constituency.
 
The Bharatiya Janata Party fielded Subrata Maitra again in this seat, and Trinamool Congress fielded Naru Gopal Mukherjee. The CPIML Liberation candidate is Abul Kasem SK. Congress’s candidate is Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. Total electors in this assembly as on the last date of nomination are nearly two lakh forty one thousand.
 
In this Assembly election in West Bengal, the main fight is between BJP and Trinamool Congress but in Baharampur seat Congress’s candidate, former MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is expected to give a tough fight.
 
BJP is assuring voters of government jobs and direct benefit transfer, a corruption-free government. Trinamool Congress is campaigning to win the voters’ hearts by assuring to continue existing state government schemes.
