VP C. P. Radhakrishnan attends Sikkim Statehood Day celebrations in Gangtok

Sikkim celebrated its 51st Statehood Day today with a grand function at Manan Kendra in Gangtok. Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan attended the programme as the Chief Guest in the presence of Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia.
 
 
Chief Secretary Ravindra Telang delivered the welcome address and read out Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message extending greetings to the people of Sikkim. Governor Om Prakash Mathur presented commemorative silver coins and traditional thankas to the Vice President and the Union Minister.
 
 
Addressing the gathering, the Vice President congratulated the people of Sikkim and remembered the state’s first Chief Minister Kazi Lhendup Dorjee for his vision of good governance. He said Sikkim’s contribution would be crucial in achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
 
 
Mr Radhakrishnan also virtually inaugurated several development projects, while Mr Scindia reiterated the Centre’s commitment to complete the Sevoke-Rangpo Railway project within a year.
