US President Donald Trump says Israel, Lebanon agree to extend ceasefire by three weeks

US President Donald Trump has said that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to extend their ceasefire by three weeks after talks at the White House last night. Trump hosted Israel’s ambassador to Washington, Yechiel Leiter and Lebanese ambassador to US, Nada Moawad, in the Oval Office for a second round of US-facilitated talks. Trump said the meeting between the Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors to the United States, the second in the past week, went very well. The initial 10-day ceasefire had been due to expire on Monday.

Meanwhile, US President has ruled out using a nuclear weapon in the war against Iran, noting that he hopes to make the best peace deal with the Islamic Republic and does not want to rush into it. He added that nobody should be allowed to use nuclear weapons.

President Trump made the remarks during a press briefing at the White House, two days after he announced an extension of a ceasefire with Iran until Tehran submits a unified proposal. His administration believes Iran is grappling with internal division between moderates and hard-liners, which makes it difficult to come up with a coherent response. Touching on the Iranian leadership, Trump said that it is in turmoil and that they are fighting like cats and dogs for who’s going to control the country. Trump underscored his push for the best deal with Iran, which is everlasting.
