US celebrates Armed Forces Day today

The United States is celebrating its Armed Forces Day today. The day which falls on the third Saturday in May aims to honor and appreciate all active-duty military members and veterans across every branch of the U.S. armed services. Established in 1949 by then US President Harry S. Truman, the day was created to replace separate Army, Navy, and Air Force Days into one cohesive celebration following the unification of the military under the Department of Defense.
