Union Minister Manohar Lal criticises Opposition for not backing Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam Bill

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal said that the Opposition has let down women across the country by failing to support the Constitution Amendment Bill related to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam in Parliament.

Addressing a press conference in Jalandhar today, the Minister said the BJP had expected the Opposition to back the Bill, as it had supported the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam in 2023, but it did not. He added that the Opposition will face the consequences in the upcoming elections, as women voters may respond to what he described as a denial of greater representation for them in Parliament and State Assemblies.

Responding to a media query on why the Bill, passed in 2023, has not yet been implemented, the Minister said certain procedural steps remain to be completed. As these processes are taking time, he noted that an amendment was required to enable their implementation by the 2029 elections.
