BJP senior leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address a huge rally at Sukna Sports Ground today in Siliguri. In this rally, he will cover eight assembly constituencies Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Siliguri, Matigarha-Naxalbari, Phansideva and Fullbari-Dabhgram. On these seats, polling will be held in the first phase on April 23, 2026. Sri Shah will address three more rallies at Kulti (West Burdhawan District), Salboni (West Medinipur) and Chandipur (East Medinipur). The TMC supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee are also to hold four public meetings in South Bengal at Haldia, Bairakpur, Jagadal and Jodasaku. The election campaign for the first phase of the assembly election has come to an end this evening. In view of polls, the state border with Bhutan and Nepal has been sealed since yesterday evening till April 23, late evening. Also, a four days dryday has been enforced from April 20 to April 23. For free, fair and peaceful election conduct, the ECI has made all strong security arrangements with heavy deployment of CAPFs.
