Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be on a two-day visit to Leh in Ladakh from 30th of this month.
Ladakh Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, in a post on social media platform, announced Mr Shah’s visit and said it reflects the Central government’s commitment to the development of the region. On 1st of May, Mr Shah will pay respects to the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha on the occasion of Buddha Purnima in Leh and share his views on the spiritual significance of the ongoing exposition of the relics in Ladakh from 1st to 14th of May.
In a separate post, the Lieutenant Governor also announced that the Ministry of Home Affairs will convene a meeting of the Sub-Committee of the High Powered Committee for political dialogue on 22nd of next month. He said the meeting will continue the process of constructive engagement with stakeholders and work towards an enduring solution to the aspirations of the people of Ladakh.
Meanwhile, the Apex Body in Leh, one of the key stakeholders in talks on Ladakh’s issues, has welcomed the Home Minister’s visit and urged him to chair a meeting with stakeholders during his visit. It also called for confidence-building measures, including withdrawal of cases related to last year’s 24 September incident and compensation for affected people.
