At least three people were killed and 45 others injured in Pakistani military attacks in the Kunar province of Afghanistan. According to provincial officials, the strikes took place today, when Pakistani forces reportedly carried out drone strikes followed by artillery shelling in areas around the provincial capital. The Information and Culture Director of Kunar, Najibullah Hanif, said the victims were civilians and confirmed damage to the Syed Jamaluddin Afghan University building, which was also hit during the attack.
Meanwhile, tensions have intensified along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Local residents reported mortar shelling by Pakistani forces in Kandahar’s Spin Boldak district, to which Afghan forces responded with retaliatory fire. Earlier, clashes in the same district reportedly left six Pakistani soldiers dead, with Afghan forces also seizing weapons. The escalation follows an incident late Sunday night, when Pakistani forces allegedly shot dead an Afghan child, triggering a strong response from Afghan security forces.
In a separate development, Pakistani media reported that two women were among three civilians injured in firing by Afghan Taliban forces in South Waziristan.
