The Telangana Government has launched a significant statewide initiative to bring artificial intelligence literacy to nearly two million students in government schools. In a strategic partnership with Amazon Future Engineer and the Pi Jam Foundation, the School Education Department today distributed 2,000 laptops to Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and other state-run institutions to bridge the digital divide.
Starting from the 2025-26 academic year, students in Classes 5 through 9 will engage with a structured digital learning curriculum developed by SCERT Telangana. This curriculum moves beyond basic computer literacy to focus on computational thinking, design principles, and digital citizenship. To facilitate practical application, the state has introduced a dedicated platform, telangana.codemitra.org, where students can experiment with data and decision-making systems.
The programme’s success is underpinned by an extensive workforce development effort, with over 28,000 teachers already trained to deliver approximately 25 hours of annual AI instruction. During the launch, education officials emphasised that this model ensures students become creators rather than just consumers of technology. As India prepares for a national AI rollout in 2027, Telangana’s integrated approach serves as a scalable blueprint for equitable, future-ready education.
