Sri Lanka’s government has rejected media reports claiming plans to remove the leadership of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), asserting that no official discussions have taken place.
Cabinet Spokesman Nalinda Jayatissa said there had been no discussions by the government, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, or the Sports Ministry on asking SLC President Shammi Silva to resign. He added that any such decision would be formally communicated.
The clarification follows recent reports suggesting a possible overhaul of SLC, including the appointment of an interim committee and a role for opposition MP Eran Wickramaratne.
Separately, opposition MP S. M. Marikkar had alleged that potential changes could be politically timed ahead of May Day, though he acknowledged these claims were unverified.
