More than 26 lakh households have availed the Self-Enumeration facility so far during the first phase of the Census 2027 in the country. The Registrar General of India stated that this marks the growing participation of citizens in the digital initiative of Census. It said by choosing to provide their details online, these families have embraced a faster, smarter and more convenient way to contribute to nation-building.
The first phase of Census began on 1st of this month. The Self Enumeration facility is currently underway in Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Bihar.
Meanwhile, House Listing and Housing Census have begun in Goa, Karnataka, Mizoram, Odisha, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, NDMC area and Delhi Cantonment Board of the National Capital.
The House listing Operations will involve listing all buildings and structures and collecting information on housing conditions, amenities, and assets.
The second phase of the census, which is Population Enumeration, will be conducted during February next year. It will focus on collecting individual-level data, including age, gender, occupation, literacy and caste details.
