Punjab Police has arrested the prime accused in the blast that took place near the heavily guarded main gate of the Border Security Force Punjab Frontier headquarters in Jalandhar on the 5th of May. Punjab Police told Akashvani that the accused is a resident of Punjab and had allegedly used an Improvised Explosive Device to carry out the blast. Sources further revealed that the accused was reportedly in contact with a Pakistan-based terrorist. More details are awaited.
Soon after the incident, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav had visited the blast site in Jalandhar and reviewed the security situation. At that time, he had not ruled out the possibility of the attack being an IED blast masterminded by Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI. Meanwhile, investigations are continuing into another blast that occurred on the same night at an Army installation in Amritsar. Security agencies are maintaining a close vigil and further investigations are underway.
