Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy submits resignation to Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan

Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy today submitted his resignation to Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan, paving the way for the formation of a new government in the Union Territory. The Chief Minister personally handed over the resignation letter to the Lieutenant Governor at Raj Nivas.

Following the completion of the Assembly elections, the Lieutenant Governor yesterday issued orders for the dissolution of the 15th Puducherry Legislative Assembly.

The National Democratic Alliance government led by Rangasamy is set to return to power after securing a comfortable majority in the elections. The Lieutenant Governor is expected to take a decision on government formation once the All India NR Congress, the single largest party and the principal constituent of the NDA alliance in Puducherry, formally stakes claim to form the government.

Meanwhile, R. Selvam will continue as Speaker until the newly elected Assembly appoints a Pro-tem Speaker. In the newly elected House, the NDA secured 18 seats. The All India NR Congress won 12 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party secured four seats. Alliance partners All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Latchiya Jananayaka Katchi won one seat each.
