Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor. Addressing a gathering at a function held in Dehradun, the Prime Minister said that the state of Uttarakhand has completed 25 years since its formation and has now entered its 26th year. He said, with the inauguration of this corridor, another major milestone has been added to its progress. He said, this project is very important from a tourism perspective and will give a new impetus to the development of Uttarakhand.
The Prime Minister said that roads, highways, expressways, airways, railways, and waterways are the lifelines of a nation, and over the past decade, the country has been working towards building such lifelines to realise the vision of a Developed India.
Referring to the Kumbh Mela to be held in Haridwar next year, the Prime Minister urged all stakeholders to make the event grand, sacred, and clean.
Paying tribute to Uttarakhand’s proud military tradition, the Prime Minister remembered brave soldiers like Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, who was martyred in the 1962 war. He also highlighted several welfare measures for ex-servicemen, including the disbursement of about 1.25 lakh crore rupees under One Rank One Pension, a 36 percent increase in the health scheme budget for ex-servicemen, doorstep delivery of medicines for those above 70 years of age, and doubling of educational grants for their children. He said that strengthening the armed forces and honouring the families of soldiers remain the government’s top priority. Earlier, the Prime Minister offered prayers at the Dat Kali Temple. He later held a roadshow of about 12 kilometres to the venue at Dehradun Cantonment.
