Senior Labour and Employment Advisor to the Labour and Employment Ministry, Alok Chandra has said, new labour codes are designed to create a clear, consistent, and forward-looking legal framework that balances business needs with worker welfare. Mr Chandra said this while addressing the 91st Annual General Meeting and Annual Convention of the All India Organisation of Employers (AIOE) in New Delhi. He highlighted that the new framework is built to improve the ease of doing business by shifting to a digital-first approach.
About workers’ welfare, the Advisor stated that the new reforms universalize minimum wages or floor wage across all sectors which were not included in the previous employment system. Mr. Chandra further said, the codes also promote an inclusive workforce including employment of women for night shift with adequate safety measures.
Mr. Chandra urged organisations like FICCI and AIOE to use their networks to educate members on the benefits of the new codes. He further asked them to support Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in adopting new, simplified compliance models.
