The historic and vibrant Bisket Jatra of the Kathmandu Valley has concluded in Bhaktapur with the symbolic lowering of the ceremonial pole, marking the end of one of Nepal’s most iconic festivals. The nine-day festival begins at the close of the Nepali New Year and continues into the first four days of the new year, drawing large crowds and showcasing the rich cultural traditions of the region.
After a 9-day-long festivity across Bhaktapur, Bisket Jatra ends, marking the conclusion of new year celebrations. On the final day of Jatra, the lingo wooden pole, which had been erected earlier during the festival, is pulled down.
Groups of enthusiastic youths from different parts of the town moved the chariot of Bhadrakali as traditional music filled the air. The atmosphere was charged with energy, as spectators cheered and watched the intense moment unfold.
Bisket Jatra reflects not just cultural heritage but also the unity and spirit of the local community. The conclusion of Jatra marks the end of the old year and the beginning of a new chapter.
