Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said through expressways, ring roads, tunnels and elevated corridors, the government is modernising the entire transport network of Delhi-NCR and preparing it for future needs. He, along with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today inspected the six-lane access-controlled DND-Sohna Highway.
Briefing the media after the inspection, Mr Gadkari said that around one thousand 850 kilometres of road projects worth 87 thousand crore rupees have been completed in the Delhi-NCR region. He said that road projects spanning 225 kilometres, worth 13 thousand crore rupees, are currently under construction, while projects worth nearly 34 thousand 500 crore rupees are in the pipeline. The Minister said that these infrastructure projects will help save fuel, reduce pollution, improve logistics efficiency and accelerate economic growth.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the Centre and the Delhi Government are now working in close coordination and the national capital is receiving the maximum benefits of this cooperation. She thanked Mr Gadkari for promoting the use of millions of tonnes of city waste in highway construction, saying that this initiative has directly benefited Delhi by helping reduce the height of waste dumps of the city.
