In Mizoram, schools in Aizawl, Serchhip, and Lunglei districts remained closed for a second consecutive day today due to heavy rain and strong winds, which continued to disrupt normal life. Authorities in Aizawl, Serchhip, Lunglei, Hnahthial, and Lawngtlai districts ordered the closure of schools as a precaution against landslides, flash floods, and other weather-related risks.
Officials said persistent downpours have heightened the danger of mudflows and rockfalls. Since Monday, torrential rainfall has caused widespread damage, affecting over 70 houses, as well as schools, church halls, and government buildings. Despite the destruction, no casualties have been reported so far. The IMD has recorded significant rainfall across several districts and has forecast more heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds of up to 60 kilometres per hour through Friday.
