Manipur: 2 civilians killed in ambush by suspected armed militants on NH-202

In Manipur, two civilians, including retired Indian Army personnel, have been killed in an ambush by suspected armed militants today at National Highway 202 (Imphal-Ukhrul Road). According to the Police report, the incident took place around 1.30 PM near TM Kasom village along the National Highway in Ukhrul district.

The report further said that more than ten private vehicles, including passenger vehicles, were en route to Ukhrul from Imphal when it was ambushed from the adjoining hill range. In the attack, three passengers sustained serious bullet injuries and succumbed to the injuries. Additional security forces rushed to the incident site and started operation.

Armed conflict between Kuki and Tangkhul Naga has been continuing in and around the Litan area of Ukhrul district for the last many days, and National Highway 202 is frequently blocked by armed miscreants. The State police provide security cover in National Highway between Litan and Mahadev area. However, the ambush site is located before reaching Litan from the Ukhrul site.

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand condemned the cowardly ambush to civilians by armed militants in Ukhrul district today.
