The census process in Maharashtra formally commenced today with Governor Jishnu Dev Varma undertaking self-enumeration. Marking the launch on the state’s foundation day, the Governor urged citizens to actively participate in the nationwide exercise.
The self-enumeration phase will continue until May 15, after which census officials will conduct door-to-door visits. Citizens are required to complete their own enumeration by answering 33 questions, a process that takes about ten minutes.
State Principal Census Officer Dr. Nirupama J. Dange said, around 2.6 lakh personnel will be deployed for the exercise across Maharashtra. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis completed his self-enumeration at the official residence ‘Varsha’ in Mumbai, while guardian ministers across districts also participated, marking the start of the statewide drive.
