Maharashtra: 61 child marriages stopped in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar through prompt intervention by authorities

The Women and Child Development Department in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district successfully stopped 61 child marriages between April 1, 2025, and March 31 of this year. Prompt intervention by authorities and support from alert citizens helped prevent these cases. Out of the 61 cases, police complaints were registered in five instances, while two minor girls were provided protection and shelter. In other cases, written undertakings were taken from parents.

Meanwhile, authorities have warned that incidents of child marriage are more likely to occur in rural areas during the auspicious muhurat of Akshaya Tritiya, and special vigilance is being maintained. Citizens have been urged to report any suspicious marriage plans to the police, Child Protection Cell, or Child Helpline 1098.
