Ladakh: Deputy Commissioner Calls District Status for Drass a Historic Step Towards Better Governance

In Ladakh, following the declaration of Drass as a new district, the Deputy Commissioner, Imteeaz Kacho, said that people has expressed gratitude to the Government of India and the Administration for fulfilling their long-standing demand. Speaking to media, the Deputy Commissioner said that the people of Drass are highly pleased with the new district status and termed it a historic step towards bringing governance closer to the public. He stated that the administration will focus on sustainable development, ensuring a balance between rapid progress and environmental protection. Education and healthcare have been identified as priority sectors, with special emphasis on ensuring that every child attends school and that quality services reach all sections of society.


The Deputy Commissioner also highlighted the importance of youth empowerment, stating that efforts will be made to guide young people towards positive activities and keep them away from negative influences. He informed that the district administration has begun outreach programmes, visiting various villages and Panchayats to directly interact with residents and address their concerns.


To boost the tourism sector, he noted that Drass has immense potential in adventure and eco-tourism, and steps will be taken to promote the sector by improving infrastructure and visitor facilities. The Deputy Commissioner further said that close coordination with various departments and the Army will continue to ensure holistic development and improvement in social indicators.


In his message, he assured the people that the doors of the district administration will remain open, and every effort will be made to resolve public grievances efficiently and transparently.
