J&K: House Committee inspects Jal Jeevan Mission schemes in Poonch district

The thirteen-member House Committee constituted to review the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in the Union Territory today conducted an on-ground inspection of various water supply schemes in the Poonch district.

During the visit, the Committee inspected multiple water supply schemes in the Mandi area to assess their functioning on the ground. The local residents expressed strong resentment over inadequate supply of clean drinking water, stating that several schemes under JJM, particularly lift water supply schemes, are not functioning properly, causing severe hardships.

The women from nearby areas highlighted their difficulties, sharing that they are forced to travel long distances to fetch water due to the lack of proper supply and urged the Committee to take immediate steps to address the issue and ensure regular availability of drinking water. The Committee assured the residents that necessary measures would be taken to resolve the issues and ensure proper functioning of water supply systems.

The inspections are expected to provide valuable first-hand insights into the implementation of JJM schemes and help the Committee formulate recommendations aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability and effective delivery of safe drinking water to every household under the “Har Ghar Jal” initiative.
