Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf says Iran still has leverage against US

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf today said Iran still has leverage against the United States, pushing back against claims by US President Donald Trump. He explained his stance in a simple, math-style post on social media to make his argument clearer. Mr Ghalibaf said Iran’s supply cards, including the Strait of Hormuz, Bab el-Mandeb Strait and pipelines, could counter U.S. demand cards such as inventory releases, reduced consumption and future price adjustments.

He added that summer is peak season for oil demand and could worsen the impact of any disruption, potentially driving up U.S. fuel prices ahead of the 2026 United States midterm elections. Separately, Badr Albusaidi said he discussed the issue with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, stressing the need for diplomacy and freedom of navigation.
