Iranian state news agency IRNA said today that Tehran has sent its latest proposal for negotiations with the United States to Pakistani mediators. This move could improve prospects for breaking an impasse in efforts to end the Iran war. Global oil prices, which have risen sharply since Iran started a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, dropped after its report.
A ceasefire has been in place since 8th of last month. US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth told lawmakers that the ceasefire with Iran effectively pauses the legal deadline requiring congressional approval for military action under the 1973 War Powers Resolution.
However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei cautioned against expecting quick results from talks. Iran says it will respond with long and painful strikes on US positions across the Gulf region if Washington renews attacks and has restated its claim to the Strait of Hormuz.
