Indian Railways approves Rs 993 crore for Arakkonam-Chengalpattu Doubling Project to boost Chennai Suburban rail network

 
Indian Railways has approved 993 crore rupees for the Arakkonam-Chengalpattu Doubling Project to boost the Chennai Suburban rail network. The Ministry of Railways said that the 68-kilometre-long project is a part of the important Chennai suburban circular rail network connecting Chennai Beach, Tambaram, Chengalpattu and Arakkonam.
 
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that this project will play a significant role in easing congestion on the busy Chennai suburban rail network while improving punctuality and operational efficiency. He said that the project will strengthen passenger and freight movement across the corridor, benefiting transportation of key commodities, including cement, automobiles, food grains, iron and steel.
