India is among best-performing countries globally in achieving climate commitments under INDCs: Piyush Goyal

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal today said that India is among the best-performing countries globally in achieving its climate commitments under the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs). He also highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, climate action has evolved from a perceived compulsion into an economically viable proposition for the nation.

Addressing a dialogue on Viksit Bharat 2047 – Advancing resilience with climate intelligence in New Delhi, Mr Goyal noted that the Prime Minister played a pivotal role in uniting the Global South to ensure that the climate crisis is addressed with the necessary urgency and shared responsibility. The Minister emphasised that India has consistently ranked among the top G20 nations in meeting its renewable energy targets and achieved its renewable energy goals eight years ahead of schedule. He further said that India currently has about 260 GW of renewable energy capacity and has now set an ambitious target of reaching 500 GW of clean energy capacity by 2030.
