Amid rising temperatures across Keralam, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for hot and humid conditions in the state till Sunday. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has urged the public to take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related health issues.
The maximum temperatures are likely to reach up to 40 degrees Celsius in Palakkad district, 39 degrees Celsius in Kollam, and 38 degrees Celsius in Kottayam. Several other districts are expected to record temperatures of up to 37 degrees Celsius, which is about 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal. Authorities have advised people to stay hydrated and avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak afternoon hours. The ongoing summer heat has pushed electricity consumption in the state to record highs this month.
