Himanta Biswa Sarma unanimously elected as leader of BJP Legislature Party in Assam

In Assam, Senior leader Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has been elected as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party as well as the NDA Legislature Party. Dr. Sarma will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam for the second consecutive term on Tuesday.

In the BJP Legislature Party meeting held in Guwahati this morning, a total of eight BJP MLAs, including Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Biswajit Daimary, and Ajanta Neog, proposed Dr. Sarma’s name as the leader. The proposal was subsequently seconded by all other MLAs in attendance. Thereafter, in a joint meeting with all AGP and BPF legislators, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma was unanimously accepted as the leader of the NDA.

 

Following these formal proposals, BJP Central Observer Jagat Prakash Nadda officially declared Dr. Sarma as the leader of both the BJP and the NDA. After being elected, Dr. Sarma met Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Lok Sewa Bhawan this afternoon. Presenting the signatures of 102 MLAs, Dr. Sarma formally staked his claim to form the new government. The swearing-in ceremony of the BJP-led NDA Government for its third consecutive term will be held on Tuesday at the Veterinary College playground in Khanapara, Guwahati.
